Transition Lounge |

| Project Timeframe: |
9 weeks |
Requirement:
Additional ward space was required to relieve
the pressure on the existing Accident &
Emergency Department. The hospital proposed
a transit lounge/ ward to cater for the overflow.
The Hospital appointed leading healthcare architects,
Moloney O’Beirne, and began design work
on the new ward.
|
Solution:
Roan Building Systems received an initial enquiry from
the architects and was asked to undertake preliminary
design work on the specification & layout of the
building. The contract then went to public tender, which
Roan Building Systems won, & the state-of-the-art
RoanPlan Modular Building was chosen to house the new
ten-bed ward.
The building would be linked to the existing Accident
& Emergency Department; Roan Building Systems was
responsible for the breakthrough & alterations.
Architectural aluminium external cladding matched that
of the main hospital creating a seamless finish.
As main contractor Roan Building Systems were also responsible
for PSCS & PSDP.Infection control is a critical
issue when working in a live hospital environment, all
site personnel were required to adhere to Roan Building
Systems strict infection control policy.
The new 300sq mtr ward was constructed off-site &
craned into position over the existing accident &
emergency department. The lift & installation was
completed in one day & was clad to blend in seamlessly
with the main hospital. As infection control measure
the link between the new department & the main Intensive
Care Ward corridor was not broken through until the
modular building was complete.

Innovative Solutions:
The complete off-site fitout of the ward expedited the
programme time greatly. The off-site construction of
the building also greatly reduced the health & safety
risk:
- Significantly reduces the number of vehicle movements
on site
- Greatly reduced the threat of aspergillious by reducing
the onsite construction element
- Reduced working at height requirements
The 10 week programme timeframe was over 50% faster
than that offered by traditional building methods. Precise
project management by Roan Building Systems experienced
team ensured this ambitious target was achieved.
