The Project:
Design & build contract for a 400 sq metre
state of the art children facility. The contract
included the full Greenfield site development.
The new childcare facility promoted by the community
opened its doors in May 2009 with capacity for
80 children. |
The centre provides services aimed at kids from three
months of age to 14-year olds, including breakfast,
after-school activities, pre-school and full day care
service. This project is based on the model used for
the Coisceimeanna Childcare Centre in Trim that was
opened in April 2008.
The centre includes two Afterschool rooms, a Waddler
room (for 1-2 year olds), a Toddler room (for 3-5 year
olds), a Montessori room with capacity of 20 children,
a Nursery room (for 6-18 months), two Cot rooms, Nappy
Changing area, kitchen and dining room, staff room,
changing facilities as well as a reception and managers
office.

compared to conventional commercial buildings.”
Offsite Manufacture:
The offsite manufacture of the building in our controlled
factory environment allows for more efficient construction
techniques & enables concurrent engineering as preliminary
enabling & foundation works can be carried out simultaneously
with the main building construction. The fact that the
building envelope & first fix mechanical & electrical
systems were constructed in the factory ensured further
time savings were achieved over traditional or other
system build types, i.e. precast concrete structures.
Unlike precast systems, where the walls, floors &
roof must be fitted on site to the building taking weeks,
RoanPlan offsite buildings can be weathered within four
days. This enables the floor screed to be poured &
set within 7 days of landing on site, thus expediting
the programme further by allowing internal trades commence
internal fitted out & second fixing faster.Time
savings on the Navan project versus traditional methods
were estimated in the region of 50%+ & 20%+ versus
precast system methods.
